Examinations

Examination System

DPS Schools use a balanced assessment system combining both summative and formative evaluations to provide a clear picture of student progress. Year-round assessments are complemented by comprehensive end-of-term exams, held twice annually for Grades 3-8. This approach ensures a well-rounded understanding of each student’s strengths and weaknesses.

Following rules apply for Term Examinations:

  1. Term-Specific Syllabus: Each term examination covers only that term’s syllabus, set by the school, and no weightage from the first term is carried over to the second term.

  2. Promotion Criteria: Promotion to the next grade is based solely on second-term results, with students needing a minimum of 50% marks or an ‘E’ grade in assessments throughout the year.

  3. Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 90% attendance is mandatory for promotion, though the Principal/Head may waive up to 15% in special circumstances.

  4. No Re-tests: There are no re-tests or re-exams unless under exceptional circumstances, in which case the re-exam must be conducted within 3 working days after the original exam.

  5. Final Results: Results declared at the end of the academic session are final and cannot be reconsidered, nor will answer sheets be shown to parents.

  6. Checked Answer Sheets: Students can review their answer sheets before the final result announcement, but parents are not allowed to see them. Any disputes must be submitted via an application.

  7. Positions Announcement: Positions are based on second-term results using a percentile system, with multiple students potentially sharing the same position if they fall within the same grade range.

  8. Exams Structure: Exams include objective type, short answer, and subjective questions, with different marks allocated based on question type.

  9. No Exams for Certain Subjects: Citizenship/Life Skills, Arts & Design, Poems & Stories, and Sports/Fitness do not have written exams.

  10. Practical Exams: Practical components for subjects like ICT, Science, and Tajweed are conducted before the scheduled theory exams.
